The Black American Community
We're Better Than That!
Back In the Day
A lot is going on in our world today. Look outside and unrest is all over the place. But right now I want to talk about the unrest in the Black American community.
First, let me start by addressing the black-on-black crime problem. Outrage has sparked over the deaths of many African-American males, especially those killed by police officers. We can't scream injustice only when the alleged perpetrator happens to be a different race than ours.
We need to do some inspections and clean up in our front yards first. I've never heard of a joyful person killing anyone. Perhaps it's time for us to start unpacking our pain and dealing with what's really ailing our hearts. If there's a pain in our hearts, there's pain in our houses. And if there's pain in our houses, there's pain in our communities.
There is a 911 in the Black American communities, If our lives really matter, let us start by proving it within our communities among ourselves first. We can do this!
We're better than walking around with our pants sagging and displaying our underwear to the public. We understand we don't display things in public that are meant to be kept in private.
We're better than referring to young ladies as female dogs. We know our vocabulary reflects our character.
We're better than shooting our brothers and sisters and leaving them for dead. We believe our hands were created to help one another and not destroy one another.
Despite the images we've assisted the media and other outlets to portray of us, we must decide to demonstrate that, "We're Better Than That!"
We treated our friends like our family.
We addressed our elders as
Ma'am and Sir.
We looked out for each other’s safety.
Every mother on the block
treated us like her own children.
Every father on the block
protected us like a genuine father.
We took care of our communities.
The police were officer friendly.
We loved our neighbors as ourselves.
We brought out the best in each other.
Sometimes we have to Go Back
to Go Forward.
